Peter is responsible for managing the day-to-day
operations and setting strategic direction at North Signal. In
addition, Peter sources and evaluates investment
opportunities and leads market research,
leasing strategies and
investor relations. Prior to co-founding the Firm,
Peter spent more than 20 years in value creation roles as
an institutional debt and equity investor, mergers and
acquisitions professional and corporate credit underwriter.
Most recently, Peter was a leader of Corporate
Development and Strategic Planning within a $40BN asset
regional bank.
CJ is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations
and strategic direction at North Signal. In
addition, CJ sources and evaluates investment
opportunities and leads due diligence, asset management,
finance and operations. Prior to co-founding the Firm,
CJ spent 15 years representing interests of institutional
investors, most recently as the Head of Operational Due
Diligence for a $10BN Alternative Investment Firm where
he focused on risk management, transaction structuring
and operational integrity across a broad range of hedge
fund and private equity investments.
Chris is a Senior Advisor and equity member in North
Signal. Chris was most recently Chairman of the Board and
CEO of RBC Holdco Corporation, the $120 billion in assets
intermediate holding company for Royal Bank of Canada’s
U.S. operations. Chris was also recently the EVP and CFO of
City National Bank, a $53BN asset regional bank subsidiary of
Royal Bank of Canada until his retirement in April 2021.
Chris is also on the board of Matthews International
Capital Management, LLC, the Advisor to Matthews Asia Funds,
which has $36BN in AUM. He has served more than 20
years as a Chief Financial Officer within three different
regional banks (CoreStates, Provident Financial Group, then
City National). Chris is active with the United Way of Greater
Los Angeles and is Chairman of its Board of Directors, as well
as serving on the L.A. Business Leaders Task Force on
Homelessness.
Christopher (CJ) Carey Jr. is a financial professional with
significant investment, operations, and accounting expertise.
Previously, CJ was Senior Vice President and Head of Operational
Due Diligence at The Rock Creek Group LP, a $14 billion
alternative investment management and advisory firm. While at Rock
Creek, CJ was instrumental in the formation and ongoing
development of the firm’s due diligence strategy and investment
underwriting process. CJ led due diligence efforts on more than 500
private equity and hedge fund managers, while overseeing more
than 100 active investments representing the interests of a 100%
institutional investor base. Prior to joining Rock Creek in 2008, CJ
was an Audit Manager at KPMG LLP with a focus on public and private
real estate ownership groups, management companies, and private equity
funds.
Mr. Carey graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the
University of Maryland, College Park in 2003, earning B.S. degrees in
both Accounting and Finance.
Peter Goulding, CFA
Partner
Peter Goulding brings more than 20 years of experience in
financial services as a corporate development / strategic planning
executive, Financials focused institutional equity investor,
institutional credit / distressed debt investor and investment banker.
Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Corporate
Development and Strategic Planning practice at People’s United
Bank. At People’s he led acquisitions of banks and specialty
finance firms with more than $7BN of assets. In addition, he supported
an active share repurchase program, which totaled approximately 25
percent of current market capitalization, valued at more than $1BN.
Peter also helped to lead strategic shifts towards: organic growth;
commercial deposit gathering; fee income businesses; enterprise wide
sales force effectiveness tools and governance. Prior to joining
People’s in 2009, Peter held positions at leading
investment and financial institutions, including WL Ross, Copper Arch
Capital, TQA Investors, Merrill Lynch, and Chase Securities (now
JPMorgan Chase).
Mr. Goulding earned an MBA from University of Virginia’s Darden
Graduate School of Management in 2004 and a BA in Economics from Tufts
University in 1996.
Chris Carey

Christopher J. Carey was most recently the Chairman of the Board and
CEO of RBC Holdco Corporation, the $120 billion in assets intermediate
holding company for Royal Bank of Canada’s U.S. operations which
includes RBC Capital Markets, RBC U.S. Wealth Management, RBC Global
Asset Management, City National Bank and RBC Bank of
Georgia. Chris is also on the board of Matthews International
Capital Management, LLC, the advisor to Matthews Asia Funds, which had
$27.0 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2022.
Chris has 35 years of experience as a finance executive in the
banking industry. Chris was recently Executive Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer of City National Bank, a wholly owned
subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Canada until his retirement in April
2021. He joined City National in July 2004 from Cincinnati-based
Provident Financial Group, Inc., where he had been executive vice
president and CFO since 1998. Before that, he was the CFO of
CoreStates Bank in Philadelphia. He also worked as an accounting
manager at AEL Industries, Inc., a publicly held manufacturing company
in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and at the Philadelphia offices of Price
Waterhouse.
Chris is active with the United Way of Greater Los Angeles and is
Chairman of its Board of Directors, as well as serving on the L.A.
Business Leaders Task Force on Homelessness. Chris is also on the
Board and is a member of the finance committee of the Los Angeles
County Economic Development Corporation.
Mr. Carey earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University
in 1976.
